Team Lloyd Irvin takes on Florida!

Grapplers Quest Southeast Championship Results

This past weekend Team Lloyd Irvin sent members of the competition team from Maryland, Pennsylvania and Florida to the Grapplers Quest Southeast Championships in Coral Springs, Florida. Our mission: to test ourselves against American Top Team, Gracie Tampa, and all the top schools and competitors in Florida.

Team members from Crazy 88, Paramount, and Third Law BJJ represented well and altogether brought home over 10 medals. Notable performances included Jon Delbrugge and Kwami Mensah from 88 BJJ. Jon won all three of his matches (2 by submission) to take the Purple belt Cruiserweight division after just 11 months of BJJ training. Kwami competed in 4 divisions and won 6 of 8 matches to bring home two Gold medals. Congratulations also to Tye Ryan Murphy, Timothy Spriggs and Al Washington who also medaled.

Paramount BJJ head instructor Brad Court made the trip down to Florida from Downingtown, PA and won the Black belt Lightweight division with an armlock from the mount in the Finals. You can watch the submission on youtube by clicking here: Paramount BJJ at Grapplers Quest Aug 8 2009

New Black Belts!!

Congratulations to the new Team Lloyd Irvin black belts JT Torres, Jay Hayes, and Mike Easton! All three were promoted last night at BJJ United in Jenkintown, PA. Close to 100 students and training partners were present for the event, many of which travelled from Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, and New York to see the ceremony.

After the belts were awarded Master Lloyd and Jared from BJJU said a few words about the dedication of the new black belts, about their commitment to training and the team. Master Lloyd then surprised us by teaching a few techniques then began the training by pairing up the 15+ black belts in attendance and starting matches. Lower belts got into the mix next and everyone ended up with a great workout.

It was an awesome experience that I'm sure none of those in attendance will forget.
